Video Activity Two - a still image slide show using iMovie or MovieMaker. [Be sure first to read the information and review the resources about Video D&D: "Digital Video Information" and "Using Digital Video Software."] -->
Instructions, Part I: Create a still image slide show using iMovie or MovieMaker. (You may use any version of these programs that is available to you; each normally comes installed with your OS [Macintosh OS X or Windows XP]).
1. Create or select still digital photos. You may use stock photos that you download from the Internet (these must be copyright-free and/or creative commons: e.g., http://www.flickr.com/creativecommons and http://search.creativecommons.org ), or you may use digital photos that you have created yourself. You should include at least 5 photos in your slide show. Do not use family photos or photos of yourself for this activity. Give full attribution for all photos used.
Important: It will be helpful to reduce the file size of the digital images before importing them to your slide show. See http://goo.gl/yWax. Typically digital images created by a digital camera are quite large. You can compress them by using Preview (on the Macintosh), or Photoshop Elements (choose "Save for Web...") or Fireworks (choose "Export Preview...") or http://webresizer.com/ and http://www.phixr.com/.
2. Create a title slide for your slide show (as well as credits at the end if you wish).
3. Insert appropriate transitions between slides.
4. Add audio (either copyright-free music or narration) to your slide show. You may create and import an audio file using Audacity or GarageBand or another tool. Give full attribution for all audio used.
5. Share or Export ("compress for web") or Publish (depending upon your software) and title the file yourlastnameVA2.mov [iMovie] or yourlastnameVA2.wmv [Movie Maker]. Note that you will create either a .mov file or a .wmv file. You may instead create an .mp4 or .m4v file if you wish.
Upload the video file to YouTube or Vimeo or another site.
Instructions, Part II: Embed video and description to wiki
1. Create a new page on your wikispaces site, title it "va2" and embed your video and write your description. You will need to post your video on youtube or vimeo [opens new window] or elsewhere and, after grabbing the embed code from that site, embed it on your wikispaces page.
2. Write a brief description of the steps you followed to create the video. Then answer these questions explicitly: 1. What challenges did you encounter? 2. What new things did you learn?
Here are some tutorials for each of these programs; you will find additional tutorials available in our list of resources or search for the respective programs using Google or another search site:
